Coenzyme A as growth stimulant for Acetobacter suboxydans.

چکیده
It had been found that pantothenic acid bound in coenzyme A and its partial degradation products is inactive in the test with Lactobacillus arabinosus.l In this connection a recent report by King, Lecher, and Cheldelin2 was of considerable interest. They isolated from heart muscle a pantothenic acid-containing factor which, with 9. suboxydans, gave a greater and faster growth response than would have been expected from its pantothenic acid content. L. arabinosus did not respond to their preparation, except after decomposition with intestinal phosphatase. The similarity of this factor to coenzyme A was pointed out. In contrast it was found, however, that the preparation did not restore sulfanilamide acetylation and appeared difficultly dialyzable.

Nonfunctional tricarboxylic acid cycle and the mechanism of glutamate biosynthesis in Acetobacter suboxydans.
Acetobacter suboxydans does not contain an active tricarboxylic acid cycle, yet two pathways have been suggested for glutamate synthesis from acetate catalyzed by cell extracts: a partial tricarboxylic acid cycle following an initial condensation of oxalacetate and acetyl coenzyme A. and the citramalate-mesaconate pathway following an initial condensation of pyruvate and acetyl coenzyme A. To d...
متن کاملOxidation of acetaldehyde by Acetobacter suboxydans.
Acetobacter suboxydans has a powerful system for the oxidation of ethanol to acetic acid, as might be expected from the fact that the acetic acid bacteria have long been used for the commercial production of vinegar. Alcohol dehydrogenase in soluble extracts has been found to be DPlSspecific1 (1). It has now been observed that either TPN or DPN can be used as coenzyme for the oxidation of aceta...
متن کاملOxidative dissimilation in Acetobacter suboxydans.
Interest in this laboratory has focused upon the metabolism of the acetic acid bacteria since the superior activity of bound forms of pantothenic acid (PAC) ((1, 2); coenzyme A (3, 4)) over the free vitamin was discovered. The disclosure that pantetheine (Lactobadus bulgaricus factor) is a mercaptan capable of coexisting with an oxidized disulfide form (5) has led to speculation as to whether c...

متن کاملSources of energy and the dinitrophenol effect in the growth of Acetobacter suboxydans.
In resting Acetobacter suboxydans cells, glycerol can be oxidized beyond the dihydroxyacetone stage, and sorbitol, beyond the sorbose stage (King and Cheldelin, 1952a). 2 ,4-Dinitrophenol inhibits the further oxidation of dihydroxyacetone or sorbose but has no effect upon the first step oxidations (King and Cheldelin, 1952b). Since these keto derivatives can be metabolized further by resting ce...
